One of Merseyside’s most widely known, critically acclaimed and prolific acts of the 21st century is undoubtedly The Coral, the Wirral-based group shot to Indie household status with hits like ‘In The Morning’ and ‘Dreaming Of You’ that earned the band a Mercury Prize nomination and a place in NME’s top 10 albums of 2008. Even after separating from their original guitarist and local legend Bill-Ryder Jones, the band have continued to be daring and exciting in every project they take on, still bringing their Psychedelic and Folk influences to the Merseyside Indie scene.
Their most recent project involved a double album release of ‘Sea Of Mirrors’ and ‘Holy Joe’s Coral Island Medicine show’. The latter of which, mastered by Graeme Lynch at Two Zero Nine mastering and produced by Chris Taylor at Kempston Street Studios, was only released in physical format yet still made it into the top 40 album charts.
The record is intricately balanced, weaving an array of rich and eclectic instrumentation together while allowing the vocals to spin abstract lyrical storytelling, performed by James and Ian Skelly's grandad a.k.a The Great Muriarty. Featuring spoken word by actor John Simm, and guest vocals by Rianne Downey, The Coral have demonstrated once again that their creative spark refuses to wain.
