Undoubtedly one of the UK’s most exciting newcomers, The Manatees have truly announced themselves to the indie scene with their new EP ‘Different State of Mind’. It is a high-energy 5-track collection that showcases their talents in both songwriting and arrangement, released via Independent label Fierce Panda Records (Neon Waltz, Ash).
The EP, mixed by Tarek Musa (Spring King, Circa Waves, The Big Moon) and mastered by Greame Lynch at Two Zero Nine Mastering (Miles Kane, The Coral, The Kairos), is full of flavour, blending their infectious Catfish and The Bottlemen esc chorus’ with a slick tonal finesse and atmospheric range that rings of Foals. The balance between the gritty rock textures and cleaner, pop-oriented backing harmonies and electronic undertones is delicately crafted within the mix and it is this blend that makes the EP so rich in sound and emotive impact.
The EP has been met with high praise from industry tastemakers such as BBC Radio One’s Jack Saunders who span the lead single ‘Buttercup’ and BBC 6 Music’s Nathan Shepard who featured the band on the ‘independence roundup’. As they gear up for a UK tour which includes dates at Manchester’s Deaf Institute and Bristol’s Rough Trade, The Manatees seem to be on an unstoppable upward trajectory.
