Leading the charge of Liverpool’s new burst of indie talent is the alternative quintet The Sukis. After making waves in their hometown scene, selling out their headline show at Kazimier Stockroom, the band are now gaining the attention of a national audience, landing a place on Spotify’s ‘Proper Belters’ playlist. They have now kicked off 2023 with a bang, amassing just shy of 200,000 monthly listeners on Spotify thanks to the release of their latest single ‘Animo’.
The track, produced by Alex Quinn (of Kempston Street Studios) & mastered by Graeme Lynch at Two Zero Nine Mastering, was written after the band had spent a long period of time together, sleeping on the floor and working on their music. It is an outlet of the frustration they were feeling at the time and thus almost sounds like a euphoric release.
The rhythm is constantly shuffling forward with a rapid energy while the vocals are delivered with an angular flair. Every element has been tweaked to capture the frantic tension that was present when the song was written. Gritty rock elements blend with a slick indie melody and a perpetuating vocal frustration that all culminate in an expressive, high-intensity finale that radiates an immersive live energy. There’s definitely plenty more to come from The Sukis this year!
